AlphaGenome Breakthrough

The AlphaGenome Atlas launch by Google DeepMind (published in Science) is verified. It is a 1-petabyte pre-calculated predictive map covering all 9 billion single-nucleotide variants across the human genome.

Core elements of the release include:

The AVI Score: The introduction of the AlphaGenome Variant Impact (AVI) score, which merges AlphaGenome’s regulatory predictions with AlphaMissense protein data into a single ranking metric. This has already been integrated directly into major bioinformatics pipelines like the Ensembl Variant Effect Predictor (VEP).

Real-World Validations: Collaborations with the Broad Institute’s GREGoR Consortium demonstrated its utility in tracking down hidden causal mutations for unsolved rare diseases (such as identifying splice-site errors in the DNM1 gene). Furthermore, parsing UK Biobank data from over 54,000 individuals surfaced 22% more non-coding disease associations than previously possible by cleanly filtering statistical background noise.
